Dennis, with a career spanning more than five decades and over 100 films, is perhaps best known for writing, directing, and starring in the seminal counterculture classic Easy Rider. He also appeared in such film classics as Giant, Rebel Without a Cause, Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet, Colors, Indian Runner, Basquiat, True Romance, and Speed. In addition to an Oscar Nomination for the Easy Rider screenplay, he was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Hoosiers. Widely regarded as a Hollywood maverick and an icon of independent film, Dennis also gained attention for his work as an accomplished artist and photographer.
